The Boutwell Owens Story
Satisfying Customers Since 1887You may not know us, but you've seen our work. You've
even carried it home with you — from your neighborhood
grocery, your pharmacy, from your local hardware and
auto parts stores. We produce the packaging used to bring
some of the world's finest products to market. You've seen
our printed folding cartons, blister card packs and other
custom printed packaging on shelves and hanging displays
across the country. We're printers and die makers and
specialists in every aspect of package printing, structural
design and converting. It's time we introduced ourselves
to you.We were printers first. Boutwell Owens was known as a
fine printing house as far back as 1887, when our founders
worked with other Massachusetts printers to establish
Boston as a major printing center. Our reputation as a
respected box maker and producer of custom packaging
materials was earned later. Today our customers come
from a wide range of industries, including communications,
automotive, hardware, house wares, beauty and health care. Most recently, we have attracted attention in our industry
because of our phenomenal growth. Our workforce has
grown from 60 employees to 180 in five years. We have
become a national company in a short time, but our
expansion has been carefully planned and timed. We
enjoy strong business relationships with some of the
largest — and smallest — companies in America. And
each is important to us.We have developed unique printing and production systems
that contribute to the efficient flow of product through our
50,000-square-foot main plant. Much of the space in our
40,000-square-foot warehousing facility is used for finished
product that we hold in inventory for customers. In this
way, they're never really "out" of boxes or cards. Helping
customers manage their inventory is a part of the service
we provide at Boutwell Owens. Our talents run to complex die cutting, windowing, embossing,
foil stamping, printing on two-, four- and six-color presses,
on virgin and recycled stock, and specialized imprinting. We
have lithography, offset and flex all under one roof. That
represents a lot of flexibility. And we work hard to meet the
just-in-time delivery requirements of our customers while
maintaining the high level of quality they demand. If you buy packaging — folding cartons, blister cards or
other materials needed to bring a product to market — this
brochure is for you. It tells the Boutwell Owens story through
the words of our printers, die makers and other craftspeople
who represent the Boutwell Owens family of 180 strong. The brochure, folder and other materials before you are
examples of our work. We produced them, from concept and
design, through printing, die cutting, gluing and bindery work.
We hope, by reading this, you'll understand why we have
enjoyed such dramatic growth during a time when many of
our competitors have not. Our plant is less than an hour's
drive from downtown Boston, nestled in the rolling hills of
Fitchburg. Welcome to Boutwell Owens.
